Shaping the Insulation Solutions of the Future!

We have been talking a lot about some of the revolutionary projects we have been working on this year, including the APC funded Low Carbon Tractor, the bespoke colour development for an exclusive supercar release, composite battery coatings for electric vehicles and ‘A’ Class Finishes for carbon composites!  There has also been a lot going on behind the scenes at Zircotec HQ to assist in the development of our teams and facilities to allow us to offer the best possible support and service to our customer base.

Throughout 2018, we have increased the size of our R&D and project teams, including the acquisition of our Technical Director, Simon Hiiemae.  Whilst primarily here to recruit and grow our research function, Simon has also been pivotal in the preparations for the LoCT (Low Carbon Tractor) and as such, the teams have grown to include a number of highly skilled Engineers, development technicians and apprentices.  Their focus is split into APC funded projects, OEM development projects, new project implementation, internal automation and development of our heat shielding range.

In order to facilitate the growth of this department and offer the full range of services to our customer base, we have developed an in-house testing facility and have been able to invite our customers on-site to view the testing procedures and see the benefits of our coatings and heat shields are able to offer first hand.  We have also developed our processes to include more automation, allowing us to increase our parts-per-year/per-project to from 100,000 to 150,000.

Further to the increased R&D teams, we have also been strengthening our operations team.  Most recently adding a new senior role of Operations Manager.  Andy Coyle, who joined us in September has a background in the implementation of Agile and Lean Manufacturing methodologies and has gained certification to the level of black belt in Six Sigma and advanced problem-solving.  Andy has implemented these methodologies with great success previously and will enhance the current operations department to help deliver the high standards and operational performance required by our customer base of OEMs and Motorsport teams.

So, this brings us to today, where Andy is currently overseeing the very exciting build of a mezzanine floor here at HQ that will increase floor capacity by 75% and has already directly resulted in a number of internal growth opportunities, including the expansion of our heat shield department, ZircoFlex.

The capacity increase comes at a very exciting time for the business as we are actively preparing for OEM projects for 2019 and 2020, including exhaust coatings for a major motorcycle manufacturer, and carbon composite coatings for a high-performance vehicle manufacturer.  We will also continue to work directly with manufacturers on the development of next-generation insulation solutions for high volume turbo applications and high-performance vehicles where weight and performance are paramount to design.

With a few months to go before we see the end of 2018 we may have a few more announcements to make prior to what is looking like a very busy 2019, including more staff updates, new products and a fair few projects that we believe are going to set the industry alight!
