Thermal management for inlet manifolds
Engine compartment heat is just one force lowering a car and motorcycles performance, from reduced horsepower, to breaking down fluids, to disrupting ignition and increasing wear. Of course, tuning an engine for extra horsepower intensifies the heat production so exacerbating the problem.
It’s quite common for engine compartment temperatures to be above ambient even when the car or motorcycle is in motion. The greatest source of heat in an engine compartment is the exhaust system with gas temperatures in high performance cars reaching as much as 900oC. The most effective way to counteract this problem and retain heat within the exhaust system is the use of a thermal barrier coating such as Zircotec’s Performance Range.
A thermal barrier coating which keeps heat within a pipe will also keep heat out; by minimising heat transfer into an inlet manifold resulting in a lower air intake temperatures for increased power output.
