Performance ColoursTM - high performance exhaust coatings
   

 

These ceramic coatings delivers a similar level of thermal performance to that offered by our flagship Performance WhiteTM coating, but with a range of colours and surface finishes. This range has grown in popularity and is now used across a broad range of automotive applications.  

 

Based on our core ThermoHold® formulation, this range of coatings is the result of Zircotec's ongoing investment in product development.

 

Technical Outline

     

Independent testing has shown this coating to be capable of reducing exhaust system surface temperatures by ~33% in direct contact with the surface of the exhaust system.

The underlying "base" coating is one of Zircotec's proprietary plasma-sprayed thermal barrier technologies, designed to deliver similar thermal barrier properties to those of our Performance WhiteTM whilst also providing a base for the application of our own coloured finishes.

 

Although these coloured finishes are themselves formulated to include ceramic and/or silica, and are applied in a number of controlled layers, they have no impact on the extremely high level of thermal performance already offered by the underlying ThermoHold® based coating. They are however formulated to maintain their appearance and prevent peeling, colour fade, etc.

 

It has been shown that our Performance ColoursTM range of coatings result in much lower operating temperatures for components near the exhaust system. Heat loss from the exhaust system is much reduced, leading to far lower temperatures more generally within the engine compartment. It also reduces heat-soak.

 

Underbonnet temperature reductions of up to 50oC have been reported in some applications.

 

All of these coatings have passed through our rigorous product testing and verification regime before being included in our range (read more). 

 

Our R&D team are happy to specify the Performance ColoursTM coatings for uncoated system temperatures of up to 900oC (1,650oF). The coatings can be applied equally well to new or used systems, and to most metals & metal alloys, including:

  • All types of steel (inc. stainless steel)
  • Cast iron
  • Titanium
  • Nickel & chrome
  • Inconel (and high-temperature nickel alloys)
  • Aluminium
  • Copper & brass
