Stuart Clarke of Zircotec wins in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup at Donington

Driving for Thorney Motorsport, Zircotec Motorsport Sales Manager Stuart Clarke had his first win of the season in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup at Donington Park over the weekend.

 

Overall it was a mixed weekend for Stuart with action for him in all 3 races.

 

In race 1 Stuart qualified to achieve 2nd position on the front row of the grid, and was up front for the whole race. Towards the end his teammate was hot on his heels and they changed places many times, making contact on the penultimate lap with Stuart having to retire in the gravel.

 

As a result of his non-finish in Race 1, Stuart was positioned at the very back of the grid for Race 2. At the first corner Stuart was halfway through the pack, and he went on to finish in 5th position overall, giving him a much better grid position for Race 3.

 

Stuart was placed 4th on the grid for Race 3. Stuart raced through on exit from the first corner. He took the lead on the outside down through Craner Curves, and went on to win the race. All was not easy as 4 laps from the end Stuart was aware that something was wrong with the car. The driveshaft couplings had in fact started to go. Stuart eased off a little to bring the car home for his first win in 2009.
